Cross-training: Moderate Exercise Helps
Time of Day: 5:35 AM
Weather: Climate-controlled
Duration: 40 min. elliptical
Last night’s strength training: About 40 minutes of the Shorter Session, found in the jess lifts tab
Notes: I dutifully did my one day a week of elliptical this morning, just 40 minutes easy because I have a race in two days (oh crap…I have a race in two days). I got up 10 minutes earlier just to ensure that I would get to use my favorite elliptical and not one of the crappy ones. I was rewarded, and my 40 minutes went by surprisingly fast.
While on the elliptical, I began reading my latest issue of Runner’s World, and it had a long article on how to prevent illness. Too late, Runner’s World! Try to get me this info faster! It also said that easy running can actually help a common head cold, which is vindicating indeed.
I’m trying not to be angry about still being sick. Maybe I’ll be better by Sunday, but I’m lowering my expectations for this race. I’m sad because I’m in great shape, uninjured, and this is my last time competing in the 20-24 age group. Oh well, better sick than injured. At least my legs have had a nice rest this week.
So I will focus on having a lovely Valentine’s Day and three-day weekend (I get President’s Day off wheeee!). MSB is coming to visit me today, and we will be going out tonight. We have yet to celebrate Valentine’s Day on the actual day because we refuse to be price-gauged by the local restaurants. Haha, restaurants, we’ll move Valentine’s Day and get your food for normal prices. So there.
I may not be able to update until Sunday night. Tomorrow will be a very easy two miles followed by a lot of stretching and rolling out–my day-before routine. I’ll see you with a race report (or light jog report if I can’t breathe) on Sunday or Monday!
Jameson is running the full Austin Marathon tomorrow, his very first. Good luck, Jameson!
The Valentine’s Poll will be closed at midnight. Don’t forget to vote!
