Daily Run: Best When Running
Time of Day: 5:50 AM
Weather: 43*, clear and calm
Duration: 55 minutes 48 seconds
Distance: 7 miles
Average Pace: 7:58/mile
Notes: Today is the 8th day after Big D Marathon and I have now gone running four times. After White Rock Marathon, I waited eight days before running at all, so today would have been my first run back if I had done the same recovery routine. I’m not sure if I’m a stronger runner now, or just more reckless.
I had a good run today (stronger) and lengthened my planned run by a mile (reckless) to enjoy the sunrise. It was a gorgeous morning and I enjoyed a clear view of the moon and stars, followed by weak daylight and a pink sky. I am so, so happy to be able to see again during my runs. In a month or so, when I’m sweating in the Texas heat even at 6 AM, I will remind myself that at least I can see where I’m going.
My legs felt good during this morning’s run, just 8 days after Big D. However, they feel best when I’m running (and sleeping). Soon afterwards my right glute begins to tighten, which transfers to my hamstring after a few hours at my desk. My IT bands are crap, which hurts my knees. Stretching and rolling out are consuming my life, but I think the time spent with my Trigger Point kit is helping me run well the next morning.
Oh well, if my legs have to choose one hour out of the day to feel good, I’m glad they choose my running hour. They were fatigued by the end of my 7 miles, but my pace was under 8:00/mile this time, despite big hills. This makes me a happy runner and I can’t wait for tomorrow morning.

I love running in the mornings as well and am glad the entire run isn’t in the dark anymore.
woot woot
i need some sleep to feel ready to run…
I think you’re probably stronger and your body more used to recovering to long runs now, rather than reckless. Or maybe I’m projecting how I hope my body will respond to my newfound long-run love….either way, good run!
Thanks for sharing this post! I really enjoyed reading and learning more about your running. Hope your running continues to go well!
in my opinion, it’s ok to be running during the first week after a marathon as long as nothing’s hurting of course. usually slower than normal, but i think it helps work the kinks out as long as it’s easy-pace. i’m sure you’re not being reckless!
