Daily Run: Slowly Dreaming
Time of Day: 5:45 AM
Weather: 75*, partly cloudy, calm
Duration: 1 hour 13 minutes 3 seconds
Distance: 9 miles
Average Pace: 8:07/mile
Last night’s strength training: Shorter Session under Jess Lifts tab
Notes: Well, I told myself that I could do whatever pace/distance I wanted on Wednesday and Thursday, but my legs chose to go slowly again. They didn’t go as slowly as yesterday, but I think my body is starting to feel the effects of returning to 50+ miles a week so suddenly. I think I will continue to run slowly most of the time until I get used to it.
Also, I ran out of energy in the last mile or so, and I think it’s because I didn’t get enough calories yesterday. I felt satisfied at the time, but I think the heat is making me less hungry.
My glute and hamstring pain went away during vacation, but it’s coming back with a little soreness in those areas. You may say it’s the mileage, but I know it’s the desk job. I get up and walk around at work, but I guess it’s too infrequent. Not much I can do about it if I want to pay the bills.
But it did get me thinking about what life would be like as an independently wealthy runner with no real job. What would I do?
- Continue to start the morning early, probably at sunrise. Go for a run with no time restrictions.
- Take an ice bath for best recovery.
- Hot shower with no time restrictions.
- Leisurely breakfast, not scarfed because I’m running late for work.
- Blog about run. Read blogs about running. Check email and watch news.
- Choose Hobby of the Day: Reading, taking a class of some kind, charity work to make myself feel like I still contribute to society, gardening, etc.
- Prepare lunch. Eat somewhere besides desk.
- Lift weights or take yoga class.
- Meet friends for social activities or engage in Hobby of the Day II.
- Prepare long and elaborate dinner or eat dinner out with friends.
- Have relaxing evening with moderate amount of wine.
- Sleep a full 8 hours.
I’m fairly certain I could keep myself entertained all day as long as I had enough money for my hobbies and had friends in close proximity. How would your life look with no job?
Quickie Literary Wednesday
I haven’t participated in TFH’s Literary Wednesday in a few weeks. I’ve been reading, but have been rather disappointed in the last few books. However, my mother checked out my bookshelf and grabbed The House on Mango Street by Sandra Cisneros. A beautifully written book, definitely worth your time.

that schedule sounds absolutely perfect to me!! I would just add in time with the pups, but I guess that could be under one of the hobby times
I need to figure out how to get there!
Eat somewhere other than desk sounds awesome… oh and the ice bath and the wine
Lol I do those things everyday. Unlike you, I NEED A JOB.
i’m such a workaholic that i don’t think i could survive without a job. i guess it helps that i really love medical stuff, which could fall under hobby at this point in my life. and house on mango street? maybe it’s because it was a forced school book but i disliked it. i guess i just really like action/mystery books
that sounds fabulous. you can count me in!
it would be awesome if we could all live our days like that. sign me up. i hate feeling rushed to squeeze things in all the time! :-/
I LOVE The House on Mango Street is an awesome book. Your perfect day sounds amazing. I got to do a slight variation on that for a few weeks when I was between school and jobs. Oh, how I miss it!
I’d love to be independently wealthy for about 2 weeks, and then I’d probably go crazy without a job. But I’d get some great running, reading, napping, and crafting in.
I would love that lifestyle! Being paid to run would be even better. I wonder if that would get boring, though. I would definitely take up some new hobbies.
That schedule is great and I think my perfect day without work would look a lot like it. Though reading would probably occur daily, in large chunks in lieu of any television. I would also work some home decorating/re-decorating in there cause I love it and if I were indepently wealthy, I could afford to re-do my house all the time! Yay!
Hmmmm, an interesting exercise….I’ll have to blog about that.
