Daily Run: Enjoying the Fatigue

Time of Day: 5:50 AM

Weather: 75*, clear, calm

Duration:  1 hour 13 minutes 40 seconds

Distance: 9 miles

Average Pace: 8:11/mile

Notes: What is wrong with me? Is it the mileage increase? I just can’t get down to my usual pace, although to be honest, I haven’t really been trying. I think my body might just need to go slowly for awhile until it gets used to it again. Also, Cranky Knee acted up today, just feeling a little weird and tight. I slowed down because I know it’s a muscular issue and my IT band and muscles need to recover and stop antagonizing Cranky.

So why 9 miles? I didn’t need to go so far, especially feeling tired. Well…check out our 10 Day Forecast.

…Yeah. Right now it’s 100*. Before noon.

But it’s gorgeous at dawn! It was 75* with only 57% humidity and the sky was clear and pink! I saw bunnies and deer and a fox (scary). So I risked fatigue and ignored Cranky and enjoyed the aspects of morning running that don’t involve speed. I’m going to have to find other ways to enjoy running if I want to increase my mileage, I guess.

Also, I let myself run 9 miles because I know I’m not running tomorrow. Hopefully the day off will help.

I hope you’ve been enjoying the pictures of European food. I’m saving the best for last, but I can’t share Italy with you until I get some pictures off MSB’s camera this weekend (mine ran out of memory). Until then, here’s a picture that MSB took. You can see the ruins of Pompeii in the foreground, with the city and mountains in the background. Nice one, MSB.

  • I’m sure you will be back to high mileage in no time. Sometimes the slow runs are the best!

  • WOW this is a beautiful picture. Hey slowing down is a theme today :) def take your time. You’ll be right back to beating the pants off mileage and speed :)

  • Beautiful pics, sometimes it is nice to just slowdown and enjoy the scenery of a run (especially when you see a bunch of little animals).

  • I can’t seem to get up to speed either. Maybe the warmth/time off? You’ll get back there.

LOVE ITALY!! I’m so excited for that part of your trip. :)

  • wow that is a crazy 10 day forecast! i will try not to complain about heat *ever* again (although i am a complainer by nature so i’m not sure how long that will last haha) beautiful picture!

  • ekkk ok i wont complain about our heat but it has been getting pretty hot here! at least its still in the 60s in the morning :)

Sounds like your body is adjusting, recovering from travel, learning to do speedwork again, etc. Running more slowly is frustrating, but I think your body is just tired. You’ll be pumping it up in no time.

  • what, no lunch time run? maybe your body is taking full advantage of the slower pace ’cause it knows what you’ve put it through in the past! i have no doubts you’ll be back to your speediness on your speed(-ier) days.

  • I saw the forecast and thought of you instantly. No way I could do it. That’s crazyness.

  • Seems like the forecast is really heating up all over the place. I need to get used to running in the heat for a July race I have so no morning runs for me.

As for your pace, maybe you’re right and you just need to take it easy for a run or tow. You’ll get that speedy mojo back!

  • leave the watch at home ;)

  • Great pic. Were you there during the Giro di Italia? I saw similar video as the boys were climbing Vesuvius.
