Food for Fun: Banana Walnut Chocolate Chip Cookies

My good friend Dr. Shoelace had a birthday yesterday, so I baked a batch of cookies earlier this week to ship to Dallas. They arrived on his birthday, which makes me temporarily pleased with the postal service.

I had an overripe banana and wanted to try a new recipe, so I reached for this one. I was a little nervous about trying a totally new recipe for a birthday gift cookie, but I had reason to believe that these would be very good because

1) I’ve had very good experiences with Martha Stewart recipes.
2) Anna from Cookie Madness likes them.
3) They are cookies.

So I followed the recipe as written, except I used Ghirardelli Bittersweet chips instead of cutting my own chocolate. I also skipped toasting the walnuts because I burned them last time I tried.

The results were excellent! They contain just a hint of banana flavor, which Dr. Shoelace didn’t even detect, but MSB liked a lot. I loved the combination of chocolate, banana, oats, and walnuts.

The only problem is that the recipe says it makes 3 dozen and I only got about 2 dozen. I guess I made them way too big. Unlike Martha, I do not have a 1 1/2 inch ice cream scoop laying around to make cookies into perfectly uniform balls. Silly me.
