Daily Run: Just Kidding
Time of Day: 6:40 AM
Weather: 62*, 94% humidity, sunny
Duration: 49 minutes 2 seconds
Distance: 6 miles
Average Pace: 8:10/mile
Notes: I just read over my post on surviving race week. Wow, I sound calm, confident, as if I’m immune to fear and just quietly abiding my time until race day. Ho hum, just another marathon.
I’m such a big fat liar.
My glute has a big knot in it and it hurt me all day yesterday. I rolled it out for a really long time yesterday afternoon and then it hurt all evening at work. During my stupid, short, taper run this morning I was hyperaware of it at all times. It didn’t feel worse, but it was “there.”
This same pain cropped up right before my last marathon. So annoying. It didn’t stop me, but it did cause tightness during the race that I’d rather not deal with again.
Everything does not have to be perfect though, right? At least my legs are feeling faster. I had to hold myself back and still my mile times kept creeping down.
And then there’s this:
It’s still going to rain, but now it’s going to be hotter.
Off to roll my glute again!
Edited to add: Sarah is having a giveaway here, and I want to win!

Sink down into a bubble bath and just try and forget about the marathon for an hour.
haha “big fat liar”. try not to worry about the rain. again, it’s only 30% chance so that basically means they have no idea haha
At this point you are impervious to rain.
What happened with the glut?
I’d be worried about you if you WERENT freaking out because that would mean you’d miss out on lovely adrenaline! Seriously though, it’s going to be totally fine. You’ve done a million runs in the rain, prepared like a rock star and you’ll make it happen. Glute tightness is a bummer but you have a few days to loosen him up.
Eeek. Here’s hoping that all the stars align with your bod and the weather, etc. by Sunday.
Thanks for your posts about race week! Very helpful – 1st timer here. NERVOUS. not excited about the forecast. Any advice for being “ready for rain?” Not sure what to be prepped for. I’m used to running in snow. LOL… recently had a 2.5 hour Saturday run in 17 degree temps. Slight difference from 78 and rain. Hmm…
BTW… I was getting some bad glute tightness this weekend… Went to a chiropractor last night as I suspected it was my SI joint causing the issue, and he did one adjustment that instantly took away the pain and released the muscles. Ran 5 this morning and felt great.
you kinda have to laugh about the rain on that ONE particular day… still, hopefully the weather people will be incorrect as always. although, that rain may help keep it from being uncomfortably warm which might be nice.
weird about your glute acting up again! hope it calms down over the next couple of days.
That weather forecast kills me. It’s like 42 sunny days with one aberration. Oh well, at least it’s improving day by day (well, err, minus the temperature).
I think the weather people are wrong! Sunny and 55 degrees is the forecast I am sending your way.
Your glute is probably justy ‘aching’ to RUN!! Don’t worry. Remember that it’s so normal to feel your body’s aches and pains tenfold the week before a marahton.
Calm down and own it. You’ve done all the work! YOUR READY!!
