Daily Run and Strength Training: Slow and Sick
Monday
Time of Day: 7:10 AM
Weather: 54*, cloudy
Duration: 1 hour 24 minutes 15 seconds
Distance: 10 miles
Average Pace: 8:25/mile
Notes: I had a hard time getting up on Monday morning. Something about sleeping at my parents’ house does that to me. I guess I’m out of my routine. Also, it was all gray outside and I had a bad 18-miler the day before.
Once I got going though, I had a wonderful run. It was just fun. The temperature was perfect and my legs were only stiff for about a mile. I continued to run slowly, but I ran two extra miles. I only planned to do an 8 mile recovery run.
It was lovely running on my old trail, but I had to hurry afterwards and get ready to drive to Houston and straight to my new job. I’m only shadowing this week, but I think I’m going to like it a lot. It’s such a calming environment compared to my job at the huge gym.
Tuesday
Time of Day: 8:40 AM
Weather: Climate-controlled
Duration: About an hour
Yoga class: About an hour
I must admit, I was happy that I didn’t have to go running this morning. I have a head cold and my nose is running and I’m very tired too. I did, however, have a great weights workout. I felt strong and increased the weight on a lot of exercises in my Longer Session. I’ve gotten faster at that workout and I’ve been adding quite a few exercises each time I go to the gym. This time I added:
- Arnold lifts
- 2 way bicep curls
- Cable rear deltoids
- 1-leg cable rows
- Crunches on the Hammer machine
Next I went to yoga for the first time in weeks. Not being able to breathe threw my nose really detracted from the experience. It also felt a lot harder–I can tell that my legs are tight. Hopefully it stretched me out for my speed workout tomorrow.
Hmmm…despite my foreboding title, I’ve had some great workouts the past couple days. Slow doesn’t always mean bad and sick doesn’t always mean weak, I guess.
