Daily Run: Mental Training
Time of Day: 6:30 AM
Weather: 58*, 93% humidity, breezy, cloudy
Duration: 2 hours 57 minutes 53 seconds
Distance: 21 miles
Average Pace: 8:28/mile
Notes: Unfortunately I just realized that I’m running out of time and need to go to work soon. I guess I’ll just complain less about my sucky long run. It started out fine, but just like last week, quickly went south. I can’t even blame it on the weather, although it did start raining around mile 19.
I haven’t been sleeping enough and just felt plain fatigued. No pain, just tired. To look on the bright side, I think runs like this are good mental training. If all my long runs were easy and happy and I felt like skipping, I would be prepared at all for that awful mile 24 in the marathon.
Still, I’ve had two bad long runs in a row and was a whole minute and 15 seconds slower than marathon pace today. It makes me worry.
No time to nap after my long run, which just about killed me because I’m also a bit sleep-deprived. I’m leaving for my parents’ house tomorrow and need to have everything in order before I go to work tonight. Tomorrow I will lift weights, drive to Austin, and go to the Nutcracker! Then out for my sister’s birthday! Then there’s Christmas Eve stuff, Christmas stuff, then….Michigan. More about that later.

i always think that to myself: if marathons were easy, everyone would do them. well you take it to a whole new level. and you really put the time effort and consistency in. very inspiring. i don’t know how you do all that you do!
Maybe you need a good weightlifting session to break up the mini- LR funk you are facing. Would a different route help? If you are skipping after 21 miles, something is wrong with you anyway.
You’ll be back!
You’re probably just tired and stressed, that always affects my runs! Don’t worry about it
Michigan = best state ever!!! What area are you gonna be in?
Still a really fast time and great pace considering the rain, etc.
caronae: The south near Indiana.
