Daily Runs Before the New Year

Wow, it’s been awhile.  I hope you all enjoy cookie recipes, because if not I’m sure you’ve moved on by now.  I tried checking my email once in Michigan on my grandparents’ dialup and it wasn’t even powerful enough to open Gmail.  Mission aborted.  I’ve been back in Texas since late Wednesday night and have been busy ever since.  Did you all have a good New Year’s Eve?  I sure did.  I also started 2010 off with a run.

Let’s back up though–I got up at 4:30 AM on Saturday to run 8.5 miles before we left for the airport.  I’m so glad I did because it was a day of sitting to begin a week of sitting.

I ran every day in Michigan and it was cold and slippery.  I ran 8.5 miles on Sunday to finish a 70 mile week.  My layers worked well on the less windy days, but the roads near my grandparents’ house were terrible.  I ran on packed snow and ice…very slowly.

Monday was my last 20-miler before the Houston Marathon.  It was probably my slowest ever.  It was so annoying to run carefully around ice for that long and my meal the night before didn’t fuel me well at all.  I was just glad to have it done.

I ran 7 miles on Tuesday instead of taking the day off.  A little reckless, but I get stir-crazy sitting in the house all day and it was my only release and time to myself.

I did 12 miles on Wednesday before we left to go home.  Again, one of my slowest ever and completely underfueled.

Yesterday I was finally back in Houston and did a progression run.  I ran 12 miles total and did very well.  Today, like I said, was 8 miles with my friends.  It was a beautiful, sunny morning and the first time I’ve run with other people in months.  A great way to start 2010.

  • running around on ice is never a fun time. i always have to put in so much extra effort to go at my usual speed — and that’s even if there’s enough traction! glad that your 2010 is starting off well :)

  • Good work keeping up with running in Michigan. Running on snow and ice is such a pain. Way to stick it out for 20 miles.

  • Happy New Year! Glad you were able to keep to your plan even away from home. Are you getting excited yet about Houston?

  • You were consistent and that is one thing I strive for. Great Job. When is the marathon again?

  • Just found your blog through Karyn’s. WTG on the 4:30 wake-up – wow – I feel so lazy sleeping in past 9 on my weekends now…and I have so much to do :( …oh and I adore the cookies below!!

  • at least you still got the last 20 miler done! i can barely talk myself into running essential errands (like food shopping) in this freakin’ cold weather. miserable. it may have been slow, but you got each mile in and didn’t slip on the ice so double win :)

gah, dial up. i’m soo glad my parents finally stepped into the 21st century a few years ago.
