Daily Run: Pass with a Purpose

Time of Day: 6:25 AM

Weather: 81*, 92% humidity

Duration:  57 minutes 25 seconds

Distance: 7 miles

Average Pace: 8:13/mile

Notes: I got up a little earlier than usual to run before my ART appointment, but it was just as hot as always.  I think I’m finally getting acclimated though, because I had a great run today.  Officially it is only the 3rd day of summer but it’s felt like summer down here for a good 6 weeks.

I started slowly, but my legs warmed up and felt a lot better than yesterday.  I guess all the sightseeing tiredness finally wore off.  My second mile was much better than my first.

And then miles 3-5 were great!  A girl passed me, slowed down, then kept glancing back at me (probably because I was practically on top of her because she slowed down).  I tried telling myself that it was ok and that my pace was just fine, but after a few annoying glances I decided it was time to show her how to pass people: with a purpose!  So, I blew by her and kept up my fast pace without looking back.  I could hear her behind me, so I kept the pace up for a nice three miles under 8 minute pace.  I couldn’t stand the embarrassment of having her catch me.  It gave me some decent impromptu almost-speedwork.

I went to my ART doctor today and I am going to try running three days in a row now.  That means no elliptical tomorrow!

Storytime!  A little Milo and a little Boston!

Milo got behind my books last night.  I rescued him and then he got back in, but then he got out all by himself.  What a big boy!  Literally, I swear he doubled in size while I was in Boston.

While walking along the Freedom Trail, I saw Benjamin Franklin’s grave.

And the Old North Church.

And since we just happened to stumble upon Mike’s Pastry, I had Oreo gelato on a hot day!

  • When will you be done with ART appointments? Isn’t that really expensive?

  • Excellent passing strategy. I approve. You can’t look back and can’t give them a chance to catch you. Nice Chicago Manual of Style, by the way! That’s a stacked bookshelf.

  • way to pass that girl properly. i hate it when ppl try and sneak glances back to see how far ahead they are of me. milo is still ADORABLE :)

  • I laughed out loud at the passing situation… people out there on the road don’t know who they’re dealing with! A glance backward is like a cordial invitation to blow by ‘em: “Hey you back there, I’m struggling, come pass me and put me in my place!” Love it.

  • Now I know you’re back!! Jess is passing people with a purpose. So great to hear. It must have felt awesome to smoke that chick.
